FRANCESCO LO IACONO
An Italian illustrator and photographer based in Paris. @franloiacono www.hungryvoid.tumblr.com Hi Francesco! So tell us a bit about yourself. All the bits that you want us to know about you. I'm a not-that-young-anymore Italian artist currently living in Paris. I have moved here about three years ago because I felt I need a change in my life and I also wanted to work in the fashion industry. I mostly work as a fashion illustrator. And I love donuts! What is the main idea behind your art? I usually illustrate what I really like. What I think I could value with my personal touch. I love colours. So each time I feel like I could give my personal view on a garment, a collection, a face, I start sketching. Describe life in Paris in one sentence. You can (not) do anything in Paris. Where do you get your inspiration from? Is there anything that can take inspiration away from you? I guess my main inspiration is from fashion shows and fashion weeks. I can feel a very special vibe illustrating a brand new collection straight from the catwalk! Otherwise inspiration may come from an exhibition, from music, from the streets! Also, people can be so fashionable in Paris that it I often sketched some boys and girls direclty from the streets; it's something I would love to work on soon. There was a period in which I stopped painting because I didn't feel very good with myself, but I was very young, I think I could handle my personal mood now. Luck or talent? Both are necessary. And I'd add dedication as well. If you could have one of your artworks exhibited in one of the biggest galleries of a country, what country would that be? Uhm...Japan! A great galley in Tokyo, so that I could have the chance to get back there!! What job you could not do by any means? Anything involving mathematics. That would be SO scary for me! What are your main goals at the moment? There are so many things I would like to do...really! I've so many ideas that one whole life wouldn't be enough!! If I have to keep it real I guess I would love to grow as an illustrator, since I feel I still have a lot to learn! Is there any song/book/film/quote really stuck in your mind right now? "We set out to change the world and ended up... just changing ourselves". I was thinking about that this morning heading to the metro. I don't know why. It's from the movie "Velvet Goldmine". I guess it's linked to what I said I before: there's still so much I would like to do. The best piece of advice has anyone given to you? "Let it go!" You have to learn that sometimes you just have to let it go. Where are we going to meet in 5 years time? In Tokyo for my very first exhibition in that gallery, of course!! More FLI's works here |
