AGENT X
Artist based in Vancouver.
http://www.agentxart.com

Hi Agent X!
So tell us a bit about yourself. All the bits you want us to know about you.
First thank you so much and love your Dressed and Naked magazine!! My name is Agent X I create experimental, multimedia collages, paintings, and 2D artwork. My work is an amalgamation of diverse cultures, past, present and future. The phenomena of pop culture, technology, fashion, music, politics, and race are central to my practice of designing experimental works. I am based in Vancouver now,I grew up in Connecticut and studied in New Haven and Atlanta. I was the top recipient at the Curious Duke Curious Pie Show, and I have been a finalist in numerous prestigious art contests. My artwork has been exhibited in art meccas all around the world, including London, New York, San Francisco, Spain, and Toronto.

What does inspire you? Is there anything that can take inspiration away from you?
Music inspires me very much and also looking at great artworks. Also technology. I am always looking to the future. Not much can take inspiration away from me. I'm pretty driven.

What is in your art?
Well most of my material comes from magazines or newspapers. I like to go to old book and magazine stores like how I use to dig for records back in the day. I need all subjects and different years of the material, then if needed I will add extra things into the artwork. Not all collaging uses pop culture as many abstract pieces never mostly have recognizable items. I like to use more a theme of Pop culture in a piece than a popular person or logo. There are other artists that use logos and that's there style. I always want to add something special to a original piece. Mills 2320, Osmosis Entitlement,London Pounds all have things like Pepto Bismol,Tea Bags,Sim Cards and more. If you buy one of my pieces I want you to get more than just something to look at.

The biggest adventure you've ever had.
Well I can't really say because it might be TMI but let's just say I've had tons of fun in New York City and in Vancouver lol.

If you moved countries, where would you go?
Of Course I would move to the UK. I sell so much art there I might as well move to London. Also I would love to live in France. But mainly the UK. I know wonderful people like Corrina Eastwood in the UK and I love to do more for the art scene in the UK as well.

How's life in the States?
It depends on how you look at it. There are many problems in the States so I try not to live there full-time. I grew up in the States but have family there and visit as much as I can. I'm quietly back and forth like Aaliyah between Canada and the States.

What kind of people you enjoy spending your time with the most?
I like to spend time with people how like to make things. Music,Art,Writing, etc. I'm not the type of person that likes my time wasted. Time is the only thing in life you can't get back.

The best advice has anyone given to you.
My Mom has always given me the best advice. She is the one that taught me how to make something from nothing. Keep my eyes on the prize.

What's in your mind right now?
Music and Art always. And I guess doing this interview lol.

What is the key to push yourself out there?
You have to work, work, work. Also have passion for what you do. Never get complacent. Like Nas said "Sleep is the cousin of death" lol.

What are your main goals at the moment?
Just making great artwork always. Also getting my artwork in more galleries. One of my artworks was just accepted to the New Hampshire Rochester Museum of Fine Arts for their Biennial of 2015 show in the United States http://www.rochestermfa.org/ . The Biennial show will be from June 6-September 26.

I also love the gallery I'm with Beautiful Crime in London  http://www.beautifulcrime.com/shop/?category=Agent+X and they are doing awesome and wonderful things with me and my artwork. I am very honored to be with them and the family of world class artists they have.

I just joined a great online gallery called Eye Kandi Art http://www.eyekandiart.co.uk/artists/AGENTX in the UK. They sell the works of Banksy,Damien Hirst,JJ Adams and others. Very happy to be working with this new gallery and have nice things planned in the future with them.

Coming up I will be joining WorkHouse Gallery http://www.workhousegallery.com/WorkHouse_Gallery_%26_Framing_%7C_Harrogate_Framing_%7C_Harrogate_Art_Gallery.html ran by the wonderful and very talented Daniel Syrett. I have HUGE things coming with him and his gallery. His gallery also represents Sara Pope, which is a artist I love very much and she has a show coming up on April 25 at the Gallery.

Where are we going to meet in 5 years?
At one of my many galleries in London at one of my shows. I will get you a drink and thank you for the interview :)
