(Read the 1st interview with VJ Von Art here). JAMIE ASHMAN Artist based in London. http://www.jamieashman.com/ Tell us about your work and practice as an artist.
I graduated from Central Saint Martins with a degree in Fashion Design. For a number of years I worked in the World of Fashion; as a Trend Predictor and Fashion Design Tutor. While at Art School I realised that my passion was for painting and now focus full time on Art; expressing ideas about culture and identity, gender and entertainment. My paintings fulfil a desire to further immortalise the glamour and edginess of some of the people who have shaped the C20 and C21 through their work and creativity. They are mainly of people who identify the spirit of the times that evolve in each era. Strongly coloured; I paint Idols and legends from modern history and refer to Warhol's interest in popular Art, fame and celebrity. The style and content of my Oil paintings are a reaction to the many Art movements of the past. What inspires you? The thought of getting images out of my head and onto canvas and then exhibiting them. What are you main plans a goals currently with regard to your practice? To represent the changing face of Art internationally and to celebrate the people who have shaped and shape our World. From Star Trek to the Dalai LLama. What has been your most fulfilling or exciting experience of being an artist to date? I love to see my work exhibited but having work shown as Bill board Posters at Pimlico and Westbourne Park Tube Stations is the most exciting to date as well as having paintings hung at Cambridge International Airport. What kind of people do you enjoy spending time with the most? Fellow Artists and people who are involved with the Artistic World. Where will we meet in 5 years time? At a World renowned Art Fair with a Top Gallery. |
